There's definitely a "Sorry, you don't make the cut this year, but keep trying" douchiness you feel when you hit that IGNORE or worse, just let those friend invites just pile up. (Maybe I'll be more generous later, or pair you up with another not-really friend.) So far as I can figure, they don't tell people when you "delete" them (after you accept them). Though you are screwed if he/she sees you pop up in "People You May Know" (oopsy). Or just give in to your myspace-like temptation to seem more popular by letting every and any invite through.
